Big Idea: you reread or read slowly to help you better understand a text
Review: Categorize information (synthesize)
Big Idea: group information with other similar information

Grammar
Linking verbs
Big Idea: identifies or describes the subject
Example: She is sleepy. (IS)
Helping Verbs
Big Idea: “help” the action/main verb
Example: She will go to the movie. She will be excited. (WILL)
Capitalization
Big Idea: The first letter of every sentence is capitalized and any proper nouns.
Example: We went to Dunlap Grade School.

Vocab: Pages 434 and 448
Word Study Week 1: contractions
Big Idea: A shortened form of two words that are put together
Example: cannot = can’t
Word Study week 2: pronouns
Big Idea: a word that replaces a noun
Example: Jake was sick yesterday, but he feels better today! (HE)

Writing: Response to Literature
Big Idea- In a response to literature, a writer gives important information about a book to get other people to read it.
Voice
Big Idea: The writer’s personality

Target Skill: Roles of Author and Illustrator
Big Idea- An illustrator draws pictures to help you imagine what is happening in the story
Point of view
Big Idea- You identify who is telling the story or giving the information
Example: First person point of view uses *I and *We
Example: Third Person point of view uses *he, *she, and *they
